Medusa Pondering

This is Medusa, you probably know her well. But I get a little irritated with depictions of her, and other mythical monsters, in popular media like movies and video games. They always add all this extra crap, like give her a snake tale and scales everywhere; and give her no backstory at all. The result is that she becomes 100% monster, whereas in mythology she was an important symbol of the goddess-based religions that had been replaced by warring patriarchs; and in many stories she began as a normal woman who was punished by the gods. So I wanted to bring her dignity and humanity back.

Still learning digital painting. I'm getting a little better I think.
